Digitalization in construction is no longer an option, but a necessity.
It’s the difference between looking for a dusty folder on a shelf and seeing the real-time status of applications on an interactive dashboard.
It’s the difference between wasting time and gaining trust.
On May 8, 2025, LifeinCloud participated in InnoConstruct, an event organized by Cluster TEC, as a contributing member and technology partner active in the digitalization of the construction industry. Together with hundreds of participants from administration, business, and technology, we joined one of the most relevant conversations about the future of construction in Romania.
How It Started vs. How It’s Going
What did construction offices look like 10 years ago?
- Files, thick registers, xerox copies, stamps, and signatures in 3 copies.
- Approvals depended on physical presence, patience, and… strong nerves.
What does it look like now?
- Digital dashboards that monitor the status of authorizations
- Unique online record and application systems
- Legally validated digital signature
- GIS maps integrated into online platforms for the urban planning certificate
The difference is clear.
But What Remains to Be Done?
Digitalization in construction is like a river that carves its way through obstacles.
The perfect image? A river trying to make its way through a mountain. Sometimes it hits the stone. Other times, it splits into tributaries. But it doesn’t stop.
This is also the reality of digitalization in construction:
- We already have online document exchange and digital signatures.
- We have integrations between public institutions (ANAF, ANOFM, SEAP).
- We have legislation prohibiting the request for redundant documents (Law 9/2023).
But the essential pillars are still missing:
- Solid IT infrastructure in local government
- BIM requirements in specifications
- Digital education for contracting authorities
- Real-world use of AI in decisions and operations
The Shift Is Real: From Paper to Pixels
The pictures from the presentations said it all:
- A 2013 register for building permits was replaced by a digital dashboard.
- A manual map was replaced by a GIS system that allows site visualization and document generation.
- A handwritten application was completed online, submitted, processed, and automatically archived.
LifeinCloud’s Role in This Transition
At LifeinCloud, we see digitalization as a new infrastructure: a digital, scalable, secure one.
We help institutions and construction companies to:
- Migrate to private or hybrid cloud while maintaining control of data
- Ensure cybersecurity by design in any digital platform
- Automate repetitive processes with modern IT solutions
- Prepare for the integration of AI into administrative and operational workflows
Construction is no longer just about concrete, steel, and masonry. It’s about data, collaboration, fast and safe decisions, and sustainability.
And it starts with every digitized document, with every institution that says “we don’t ask for copies anymore,” with every architect who uploads the plan to a cloud platform.
