Frequently asked questions

blue-building-blocks
What is block storage?

Block storage divides data into fixed-size blocks, providing the low-latency access needed for databases and virtual machines. To achieve maximum speed, we use NVMe SSDs, a high-performance storage technology.

What is the difference between an SSD and an NVMe SSD?

Speed. NVMe SSDs are up to 10 times faster than standard SSDs, thanks to their direct PCIe connection. Unlike traditional SSDs that use SATA, NVMe reduces latency and increases data throughput, making it perfect for high-demand tasks like databases, real-time analytics, gaming, video editing etc.

How is it priced?

Block storage is priced at €0.9 per 10 GB per month (€0.00134 per GB per hour). You only pay for the storage you allocate, regardless of actual usage. There are no additional charges for I/O operations or data transfer within the same data center.

How secure is my data?

We use triple replication, meaning your data is copied to three different physical devices. Your data is protected by multiple security measures including 2FA, role based access control, cloud firewalls, encryption, VPN, and DDoS protection.

Can I attach a volume to multiple instances?

No, each volume can only be attached to one instance at a time. However, you can easily detach and reattach volumes to different instances as needed.

How do I back up my data?

We offer snapshot functionality, allowing you to create point-in-time copies of your volumes. These snapshots can be used to restore data or create new volumes.

How does billing work?

Billing is pay-as-you-go. You’re billed hourly based on the resources you allocate, like CPU, RAM, and storage. Charges are capped at 28 days (672 hours) each month to ensure predictable costs, regardless of the month’s length.

Do I still get charged if my server is powered off?

Yes, even powered-off servers incur charges since resources like CPU, RAM, storage, and IP addresses remain reserved for your instance. To stop charges completely, you’ll need to delete the server instance. For cost-effective storage, consider using snapshots.

What about bandwidth charges?

Each plan includes generous outbound bandwidth, with any overage billed at €0.01 per GB. Inbound bandwidth and internal data transfers within the data center are unlimited and free.
